Story by PAUL MUKANA in Kakamega County
Kakamega governor Wicliffe Oparanya has maintained that the August 9th presidential race will be a two horse race.
Speaking at a funeral in Emulambo village in Mumias East constituency on Saturday morning Oparanya underlined the fact that it is all about Raila and Ruto.
“I want to assure you that the presidential contest is between Ruto and Raila, anyone else who will be joining the race will be wasting time”he said.
In what seemed like a turn on Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula who are yet to declare support for either Ruto or Raila.
Mudavadi is expected to make a major announcement on Sunday at the annual delegates meeting of the ANC party.
It is still unclear whether the ANC leader will back Ruto or Raila or go it alone upto the ballot.
Oparanya who is a top brigade in the Azimio camp lobbying for a Raila presidency insisted on the essence of peaceful polls.
“Elections will just happen in one day then life will have to continue: so don’t take it too personal regardless of your political affiliations”, he added.
He was accompanied by scores of other leaders especially those affiliated to Azimio la Umoja.
The governor pleaded with netizens to fully participate in the on going mass registration of voters by IEBC.
“Kindly get out in large numbers and ensure you register as voters, that is a very important process and it is important for everyone to take part in it”, he noted.
Oparanya is serving his second and last term as governor and a Raila victory will definitely polish his political career.
He has however indicated that he will be supporting new comer Fernandez Baraza to take over the county’s gubernatorial duties.
