Busia Governor Sospeter Odeke Ojaamong has given chronology of the birth of Alupe University College (AUC) contrary to skeptics who want to take credit for no apparent reason.

Former Teso South Member of Parliament, Mary Emaase took to the social media to claim that it was Deputy President, William Ruto who was the brain behind it formation, adding that the handshake has yielded nothing for the County.

Reacting to the MP’s remarks during the burial of Stephen Barasa, 40, at Okame village in Teso South Sub County, the Governor said the idea to start Alupe University was mooted during the NARC coalition in 2007 with then Prime Minister, Raila Odinga asits architect.

” The Rt Hon Raila appointed Professor Margaret Kamar as Minister for Education who initiated the process with my support as then Amagoro MP, ” he noted.

He added:” The initial location of the university was at the hospital. Land demarcation for KEMRI, KARI and the university was executed by James Orengo who the then Minister for Lands.

The Governor said daytime lies by the former MP were unfortunate, telling her not to engage in a pack of blatant lies to gain favours from the electorate.

H.E Ojaamong outlined the achievements recorded during his tenure as Amagoro MP citing Ongaroi, Okame, Olepito Primary Schools and Okame Secondary School.

The Governor told Okame residents that his government has terminated the contract of a contractor who was to undertake construction of Okame dispensary and awarded it to a new contractor after the project stalled.

” I have given the new contractor about two months to complete the project to enable residents access health services which is their basic right,” he said, adding that the Olepito- Okame TTI road will be rehabilitated soon.

Agriculture Executive, Dr. Moses Osia echoed the sentiments of Anglican Church of Kenya priest Evangelist Kenneth Baringo on the need by leaders to choose credible leaders.

” To get direction of leadership will entail having one leader who will give us direction ahead of August, 2022 general elections,” he said, noting that H.E Ojaamong is the leader to give the community direction.
