Former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) General Secretary Mukhisa Kituyi is set unveil his own party.
Kituyi who resigned from the plum post three months before his official contract came to an end intends to use his party to vie for Presidency in 2022.
According to Party of Growth and Prosperity (PGP) secretary general Saul Busolo, they met all the requirements that enabled the registrar of political parties to award them with the certificate of full registration.
Mukhisa stated that the party is set to be unveiled early next month but didn’t divulge more information.
Speaking to Horizon News on phone, Busolo, a former Webuye Mp and a sugar cane activist stated that they have already received the certificate of full registration after meeting all the requirements needed.
“Dr Kituyi also wishes to change the name to Sauti ya Wazalendo (SAWA) with slogan ‘Mbele iko Sawa’ as he bids for President of Kenya in 2022 using his own party,” said Busolo.
According to the official twitter handle of ORPP, it wrote, “Party of Growth and Prosperity (PGP) were yesterday issued a certificate of full registration, after successfully complying to requirements of Sec 7 of the Political Parties Act 2011. PGP marks the 84th Political Party to be fully registered,”.
Busolo stated that Dr. Kituyi had initiated talks with Defense CS Eugene Wamalwa to have them consolidate their parties and have a strong party where he would be its presidential candidate but his people rushed faster and held its NDC without consultation.
Wamalwa is associated with Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) which picked Kanduyi Mp Wafula Wamunyinyi as the party leader while his Tongaren counterpart Eseli Simiyu is the Secretary General.
This is after they failed to remove Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula as Ford Kenya party leader.
“DAP-K wanted to tap Mukhisa so that they unify forces and use him as a presidential candidate but by then PGP had not been registered, we are still asking them to support our own for prosperity of Western Kenya and the country at large,” he said.
Observers are keen to know if DAP-K will support Kituyi after unveiling his party or they will go by their word of supporting ODM party leader Raila Odinga under the Azimio La Umoja umbrella.
