Class Seven Boy Struck To Death By Lightning In Kanduyi


A primary school pupil died on the spot in Bungoma County on Wednesday evening after lightning struck him.

A class Seven pupil at Buema primary school in Musikoma ward, Kanduyi constituency died after he was hit by lightning. 

The 13 year’s boy Bivern Nyongesa had just returned back home from school in the evening and was feeding his rabbits when he was struck dead.

The deceased father Peter Nyongesa confirmed that his son was hit by lightning when he was feeding his rabbits during the rain season.

“He arrived home and a routine, he had picked some vegetables from the market centre then he proceeded to feed his rabbits but then there was a heavy lightning on Wednesday evening,” he said.

He added, “His sister went out to call him so that we could have supper together but he found him lying down, efforts to wake him up were futile as he didn’t respond,”.

Nyongesa said that he then rushed him to Bungoma West hospital in Kanduyi market but was pronounced dead on arrival.

“I am saddened with his death, he was a hard working boy whom I had banked on in future, I don’t understand who will fill the gap,” said a teary father.

Cases of lightning deaths have increased in the region something that has forced schools to erect lightning arresters to reduce such cases.
