Nairobi Governor hopeful Tim Wanyonyi has received a major boost in his bid after ODM Leader’s wife, Mama Ida Odinga endorsed him.
Mama Ida on Saturday described Wanyonyi’s bid as a dream that needs to be actualised and urged Nairobi residents to throw their weight behind the Westlands MP.
According to her, the second time MP, who has over 15 years of experience in Nairobi politics, is intelligent, organized and visionary and hardworking.
“He is a very organised man and very intelligent and the fact that he has dared to dream bigger, we will support him,” she said.
She was speaking at Kibondeni College of Catering and Hospitality Management where she presided over the graduation of 151 boda riders and 119 drivers from the Westlands Table Banking Groups, an initiative of the are MP.
Wanyonyi’s steady rise from a nominated councilor in the defunct Nairobi City Council to the levels of a best performing MP is an incredible and inspiring one that many people should emulate, mama Idah narrated.
“It is good to dream and have ambitions and Tim has shown through hardwork and discipline that it is possible,” she noted.
On his part, Wanyonyi said that he was satisfied with the good and impressive work that he has done in Westlands for two terms.
He said that his desire is to cultivate the good working model that he has used in Westlands to change the face of Nairobi City County.
“We now want to take this development model to City Hall because we have proved that if we do things right, we can have a great city,” he said.
Wanyonyi is the only elected ODM leader who has expressed interest in the seat and has promised to deliver the seat if given the party ticket.
“Once we agree with our partner parties and we are given the ticket, I Am sure that l will deliver the seat to ODM and the people of Nairobi,” he said.
He thanked Mama Idah for identifying, picking him and kickstarting his political journey and termed her his political mother.
He explained that she was the one who picked him to endorse the presidential candidacy of Raila Odinga in 2007 and he has never looked back.
At the graduation ceremony, he said that it was an incredible opportunity to celebrate more members from the groups currently studying tailoring, culinary & hair dressing.
The Table Banking groups have so far managed to raise a revolving fund worth Ksh150million where members are able to draw loans.
