Mt. Elgon Mp Fred Kapondi has dismissed reports that he has neglected bright but needy students from his constituency.

He called on area residents to trust in his leadership which values education and asked social media users to stop spreading false information.

Speaking over the weekend at Moi Kaptama boys high school during the official launching of the school dining hall funded by NG-CDF, Kapondi called on area residents to ignore false reports from his rivals.

Last week Mt Elgon hit the mainstream media houses headlines after a girl trekked over 40 km to a neighboring Kabuchai constituency in search of school fees aid.

The law maker disclosed that the girl wasn’t neglected by CDF from the region and at some point kitty paid her Ksh10,000 school fees and that the girl is on full scholarship from a well-wisher.

“CDF doesn’t give out scholarship we only give bursaries, bursaries only supplement, after watching the news aired on Citizen tv I called the school principal and to my disbelief, the principal told me that CDF at one time paid Ksh10,000 for her fees and she is also funded by Christian Relief Fund a non-governmental organization which pays her Ksh49,500 every year,” said Kapondif

The legislator added “This is a plan used against me by those aspiring for Mp’s seat in Mt elgon,”.

Kapondi said up to now he has funded more than 200 schools in the region compared to other small constituencies that his political competitors are using to taint his name on social media like Kimilili constituency.

“A constituency like kimilili which my political enemies are using to decampaign me has a total of around 70 schools whereas Mt Elgon has more than 200 schools others which are not registered but are funded by the same CDF funds that mt elgon receives just like Kimilili,” he said.

The MP urged the area residents to register themselves as voters in an exercise expected to commenced early October.

The electoral agency is expected to roll out the exercise in preparation for 2022 general elections.

“Politics is about numbers, our people are registering in Trans Nzoia, others Kimilili and the same fellows will complain of our area lagging behind and still come to the CDF for help, so far Mt Elgon is leading in UDA membership registration in the country this is very good. keep it up,” said Kapondi.

On the other hand, kaptama boys principal Tobias Otieno thanked the NG-CDF for implementing the Sh10 million project in their school adding that the project will benefit the whole community.

“As you can see the students after taking their lunch they are scattered all over the school, some in the classrooms, some in the field which at times being difficult considering it’s a raining season”

His sentiments were echoed by the chairman of the Board Of Management of the school Geoffrey Cherongis who advised parents and Mt Elgon residents at large to stop divisive politics and instead work closely with the leadership of the day in fulfilling development.

On his side CDF Chairman Julius Masaranja promised Mt Elgon residents that all projects that have been initiated by CDF will be completed.
