A sombre mood has engulfed Samichi B village in Kabula Location, Bumula Sub County, Bungoma County after a form two female student committed suicide.

A 16 years student at Naburereya Secondary School in Kabula location killed herself in what neighbours attributed to love affair.

The student has been involved in love affair with a casual worker in a nearby construction site.

The Monday morning incident shocked neighbours and area residents who described her as a humble and hardworking girl who respected all and sundry.

One of the neighbours Salome Nanjala stated that the girl visited the man on Sunday evening where they spent the night together and the man left this morning to go and attend to his duties leaving the girl behind.

Nanjala stated that her mother who seemed to understand the ongoing relationship between her daughter and the man visited his landlord and told him about the missing girl whom she suspected had locked herself in her boyfriend’s house.

She later hurled some unprintables to her daughter who was hearing all the insults from her mother while locked up in the house.

“After abusing her daughter whom she hadn’t seen, she later left to attend to other activities,” said Nanjala.

After leaving, the neighbours sought to understand why the girl was locked up in the house instead of going to school.

It is at this point that they struggled to open the metallic door but eventually made it.

They were shocked to find the girl having committed suicide using a rope and the body was hanging in a single roomed house.

“After receiving the news of her demise, the mother rushed to the house untied the rope and walked out with it to unknown destination,” said Richard Wafula a neighbour.

He added, “She left the body lying on the beddings spread on the floor, we didn’t understand what was going on, before we realized she was gone,”.

Confirming the incident, Kabula location Chief Kundu Mwanja said that indeed the girl was dead.

“I just received this sad information while I was attending to other chores, reaching here I have found the lifeless body of the teenage girl lying here,” he said.

Mwanja asked parents to counsel their children especially teenage girls who are in their adolescent stages.

“If her mother had picked her and counselled her she might not have committed suicide, let us love our children,” he said.

Security officers from Bungoma South Police Station picked the body and took it to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
