I have learnt with deep sorrow the sudden deaths of Fr Christopher Wanyonyi of Christ the King Cathedral Church Bungoma and the Principal of Kakurikit Secondary School in Teso North Sub County, Mr Fredrick Barasa, which occurred last night.
Fr Wanyonyi will be remembered for overseeing the construction of the Bugoma Cathedral and for speaheading the expansion of the Diocese of Bungoma which has a total of 41 parishes todate.
The late catholic priest was among the religious leaders in the Diocese who always condemned bad behaviour and would always tell off those who misbehaved in public including politicians.
He was a soft-spoken and dedicated servant of God who embraced discipline and good morals besides being an astute administrator and a firm leader who spoke the truth.
During my reign as Amagoro MP, I worked with Barasa who was then Principal of Albert Ekirapa Secondary School, in constructing classrooms.
Death has robbed the teaching fraternity of a dedicated and hardworking teacher who contributed immensely in raising education standards in schools he worked as both a science teacher and principal.
May their souls rest in eternal peace.
