Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong today signed three Bills into law, thus paving way for their implementation.
The three bills the Governor appended his signatures included the Busia County Health Services Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2021, the Busia County Community Health Services Bill, 2021 and the Busia County Crop Agriculture Bill, 2021.
” Today, I have signed into law three bills that will go towards improvement of service delivery in the county. I thank the County Government and donors including AMPATH, Living Goods for facilitating the finalization of the bills,” he said.
He added: ” I encourage Members of the County Assembly to continue enacting relevant laws that will be beneficial to county residents.”
H.E Ojaamong said the issue of scarcity of commodities in hospitals had been a major challenge. All money colleted in the health facilities were channeled to Nairobi and returned at the end of every financial year.
” With enactment of the bill into law, hospitals will be able to utilize funds they collect in procuring gloves and other drugs required urgently within the facility,” he said, noting that challenges associaiated with stockouts in hospitals will now be a thing of the past.
H.E Ojaamong said the Busia County Community Health Services Bill, 2021 is good news to over 2,000 Community Health Volunteers who can now be facilitated to provide basic healthcare services to county residents.
He said the CHVs Act will provide services such as health education, health promotion, disease prevention, mental-health services, home care, long-term care, rehabilitation services, palliative-care services and treatment for illnesses and injury in relation to primary care.
The County Chief said the Busia County Crop Agriculture Bill 2021, will establish an efficient legal and institutional framework for development and regulation of crop agriculture in the county.
Other bills the assembly passed this year include the Building Bridges Initiative, 2020, Busia County Climate Change Bill, 2021 and Decentralized Units Regulations.
