“I have called the Lamu governor and told him to stop interfering with our county matters by playing petty politics, ” said Wangamati.

Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati has admitted that his officers mistakenly removed the name of the bright Kanduyi pupil from the county scholarship program.

He said that his vetting team mistook the woman who sells groceries as a landlord and not a poor woman.

This comes at a time when Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha and senate speaker Ken Lusaka had already send money to the family for to cater for one year school fees.

Twaha send the family Sh53, 000 while Lusaka send Sh54, 000 that would have carted for two years .

The donations came even as Wangamati had to breath fire on the donors saying they were playing politics.

“I have called the Lamu governor and told him to stop interfering with our county matters by playing petty politics, ” said Wangamati.

This comes after Wangamati opponents criticized his programme as the one rocked with tribalism after Diana Nyaboke  who scored 401 marks at Bungoma DEB was not picked.

Nyaboke who did her KCPE last year went back to repeat after she failed to to be enrolled on Wangamati scholarship despite being needy.

Addressing the press in his office, Wangamati said Nyaboke was left out after his team was told that her parents were not poor.

He said after discovering that my vetting team was cheated to believe that she is not needy, we did our investigations and its true she deserves a scholarship and we have enrolled her” said Wangamati.

The governor asked his competitors to support his programme to assist bright and needy students despite their political differences.

”Am asking my competitors to join me and support this noble idea, but not to use small mistakes to get political mileage” said Wangamati.

On Monday, Wangamati launched the programme which will see 2,000 students get full sponsorship by joining various secondary schools.

Wangamati opponents had started giving out contributions to assist Nyokabi claiming the governor was practicing tribalism.

The governor has maintained that those who are on his programme come from all the tribes residing in Bungoma county.
