The Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka has urged politicians to respect journalists and give them room to perform their duties without interference.
He said Scribes play an important role as the watchdog of the society and the country.
“Media play an active role in checking the government, it is referred to as the fourth arm of the government because of its significance. Let us respect them as they discharge their duties,”.
Lusaka’s sentiments came in after Bungoma governor threatened na Royal Media Services reporter Jimmy Simiyu.
This led to the peaceful demonstrations by Bungoma based journalists who further called on the inspector general of police Hillary Mutyambai to arrest the culprit and let him be arraigned in court.
They also called on Bungoma County Commissioner Samwel Kimiti to intervene and have the governor record a statement over the incident.
The Senate boss also cautioned some members of County Assembly who are accusing him of stirring turmoil with the daily running of County Government of Bungoma.
“I swear before God, I have nothing to do with what is happening in the county, I lost the seat and I didn’t call for demonstrations neither did I dispute the results in court,” said Lusaka.
He added, “I urge MCAs to sit down with the Governor to solve whatever disagreement they may be facing,”.
On 2022 politics, Lusaka who was widely cheered throughout his speech, asked residents to be patient as he gives Wangamati time to deliver his manifesto.
“I am listening what you’re saying, the murmurs are increasing, and everywhere I go the murmurs are there. We shall talk at the right time. I am happy my track record is speaking loudly.”
Lusaka was speaking today at Sirisia Village, Misikhu Ward when he went to condole with the family of the late Kefa Wasike Lumuli. Mzee Wasike is the father to his long-time friend Brian Lumuli.
Presidential candidate Mukhisa Kituyi, Bungoma Deputy Governor Prof Charles Ngome, Majority Leader Joseph Nyongesa were present.
Musikoma MCA George Makari, Maraka MCA Ali Majani, West Bukusu Ward Rep Sospeter Nyongesa, host MCA (Misikhu) Milly Masungo, Nominated MCA Rebah Wawire, Jerusah Aleu, among others also attended the funeral.
