Busia Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong will today host Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya at the inaugural National Aquaculture Day at the Fisheries grounds.
Agriculture Executive Dr Moses Osia said Busia was granted the opportunity to host the event following its investment in aquaculture, making it the first to venture into Aquaculture countrywide which is a partnership between the County Government and the World Bank through Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project.
Speaking after accompanying the Agriculture Chief Administrative Secretary, Mr Lawrence Omuhaka during a site visit of Bukani Aquaculture Park in Samia Sub County, Dr Osia said the park has the capacity to raise 1.5million fingerlings and also aquaculture for business development.
The CECM said the occasion on Thursday will see small holders aquaculture farmers receive bird nets, pond liners and predator control to enable them increase fish production in the county.
CAS Mr Omuhaka said the County Government of Busia is lucky to have been picked to host the inaugural event, urging fish traders to capitalize on that rare opportunity to boost fish production in the county.
He said the success of the project will be a milestone in the endeavour for it to be replicated to other parts of the country.
Chief Officer Livestock, Fisheries and Agribusiness Moses Weunda said the directorate will endeavour to upscale fish production in the county and to embrace value addition.
Today’s programme will start with a courtesy call by the CS, CAS and County Commission Mr John Korir to the Governor.
They will proceed to the function before touring the current fish market and later the new trans shipment market.
