Lurambi Member of Parliament Bishop Titus Khamala has appealed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to work together with elected leaders in a bid to improve the standards of education in the country.
‘‘We have our own children who are trained teachers with TSC numbers seeking employment opportunities but instead TSC employs outsiders on pretense that Kakamega town is cosmopolitan. This is not being tribal but we want our people be given the first priority when it comes to recruitment,” said Khamala.
Khamala said TSC has been isolating local leaders when it comes to recruitment, promotions and transfer of teachers especially in Lurambi Sub County, saying the move has seen people from outside being given plum positions at the expense of the locals.

Khamala was speaking on Monday at Maraba Primary school while officially opening a Sh14million storey building that houses eight classes. The National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF)-Lurambi constructed it.
The Lurambi legislator also opposed a proposal to return corporal punishment to schools in a bid to tame students’ unrest and advised that the government should look for alternative ways of solving the problem.

Khamala urged students to work hard and stop rioting and indulging into activities that will ruin their education progress. To have discipline and take their academic seriously.
The Amani National Congress (ANC) lawmaker further said that all NG-CDF contracts will be given to the locals saying that was the only way to grow the economy and improve their standards of living.
“I like using our local contractors instead of going to the Chinese contractors and giving them contracts thus exporting resources. The County Government of Kakamega should follow suit and embrace our local contractors,” said Khamala.
