Kabuchai UDA Candidate Claims Life In Danger, Requests For Tight Security

A Kabuchai constituency United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Evans Kakai Claims his life is in danger.

This follows an incident where supporters of a Ford Kenya candidate Majimbo Kalasinga trailed and ambushed him at a Bungoma petrol station.

The Thursday, January 28 incident is alleged to have targeted to eliminate Kakai who seems to be a front runner in the by election slated for March 4, 2021.

“We were having supper while doing a postmortem of the day’s campaigns at Noor Hotel inside Hass Petrol station when suddenly a group of MCAs allied to Ford Kenya accompanied by some goons from Trans Nzoia County suddenly appeared from nowhere but their intention wasn’t good,” he said.

Kakai added that the goons asked for Bukembe West MCA Joram Wanjala but their target was me, they were armed with crude weapons including Pangas, clubs and many more,”.

The suspects were repulsed by police officers who were called in by Kanduyi Assistant County Commissioner Abdishakur Swaleh who was also present at the hotel.

He ordered the police officers to drive the two leaders to a safer place after the suspects were forced out of the hotel.

Kakai who has since recorded the statement over the incident asked his opponents to engage in mature campaigns devoid of criminal activities or confrontations.

“They are targeting me because they understand I am a force to reckon with in Kabuchai, let my opponents ask for votes from area residents instead of threatening others for them to win,” he said.

Two weeks ago, Kakai raised the issue about the planned attack on him which was well planned in Kitale town, Trans Nzoia County.

“Intelligence report indicated that they had planned to ferry paid up goons to Kabuchai and place them in specific places so that they attack my convoy to scare me away but I want to tell them that we aren’t scared at all and will launch a peaceful campaigns and let voters decide,” he said.

However, Bokoli MCA Jack Kawa, Chwele/Kabuchai MCA Barasa Mukhongo and Mukuyuni MCA Meshack Museveni denied any wrong doing adding that their team which supports Kalasinga also visited the hotel to have supper having started their campaigns early morning in the same place.

“We are surprised by reports that we wanted to harm our opponent, let him not be scared because we had no ill intention at all, we were only visiting the eatery for supper and having a postmortem of the day’s campaigns, let him play mature politics and stop maligning our names,” said Kawa.
