Busia: Okumu To Lead Men’s 10KM Cross Country Championship Race On Saturday

Joseph Okumu will lead other runners in the 10km senior men as Busia County Cross Country championships gets underway at the Busia County Stadium tomorrow (Saturday).

Okumu emerged winner in last year’s edition of the championships that earned him a slot at the regional championships where he took second position.

Okumu qualified for national cross championships where he managed eighth position. He will be hoping for better performance at both county and regional championships.

Other races on the card will be 8km senior women, 6km junior men, 6km junior women and mixed relay.

Athletics Kenya Busia County First vice chairperson, Anne Otiti exuded confidence the County will produce a good team that will be a force to reckon with at the regional event at Kapsokwony in Mt Elgon on January, 31st, 2021.

Other athletes expected to offer stiff opposition include, Mercy Nabwire from Teso south and Sylvia Mungalo.

She appealed to athletics lovers to turn up and cheer the teams to victory, adding that they are facing some teething challenges including transport.

AK Busia County chairman Martin Kabaka on Thursday held a meeting to finalize on preparations for the event.

The chairman said they took three runners for nationals from the county in the last three years, adding that they expect to parade at least 10 runners this time round.

Those present included First vice chairperson, Anne Otiti vice chairperson, Secretary Hildah Amusogot secretary, coach Cristopher mungalo, and members Gerald Olumasi and Emmanuel Owino.
