Breaking News: Majimbo Kalasinga is the Ford Kenya flagbearer for Kabuchai by-election

Majimbo Kalasinga has been declared the winner in the hotly contested Ford Kenya primaries ahead of the March 4 Kabuchai constituency.

Kalasinga defeated Nakuru East deputy county commissioner Eric Wanyonyi following days of lobbying.

Announcing the results Ford director of election Khadija Mustafa, said the nominations was tight with spoilt votes 3, Wanyonyi came second with 32 while Majimbo won with 70 votes

Total of 105 votes were cast, the winner Majimbo got 70, Wanyonyi 32, spoiled 3.

A Nairobi based land surveyor Peter Kapanga made the decision to vie as an independent candidate while Dr.Juma Mukhwana who is the Director General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) pulled out of the race citing favouritism in Ford Kenya party.

He vied for the Bungoma senatorial seat in 2017 on Jubilee party but was defeated by Moses Wetang’ula.

The primaries were held at Musese CDF offices near Chwele market attracted 26 FK delegates from the four wards in Kabuchai constituency.

The wards include Mukuyuni, Chwele/Kabuchai, Luhya/Bwake ward and West Nalondo wards.

The seat was left vacant following the death of area Mp James Lusweti who was buried on December 19, 2020 at his Sanandiki village home in Chwele.

Former Bungoma Chief Officer in charge of public administration David Kibiti has announced vying for the seat on Green Movement party.

Scores have announced vying for it as independent candidates and they include Evans Kakai, Peter Kapanga and Scholastica Murunga while Amos Wekesa will vie on Federal Party of Kenya.

Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula was the last man to vote in the nominations that was conducted very early.

Majimbo lauded Ford Kenya delegates for trusting in him and giving him a chance to participate in the by election.

“I would like to thank all delegates who exercised their rights by voting him in, I would like to also thank the party leader Moses Wetang’ula for giving me a chance to face other contestants in the by election,” he said.

Majimbo said that he is optimistic of emerging the winner during the March 4 by-election and would represent Kabuchai very well.

Wanyonyi in his acceptance speech thanked the delegates for standing with and supporting him.

“I want us to unite the party and members, Majimbo I wish you well in the coming hot contest in the by-election,” he said.

Wetang’ula thanked Wanyonyi  for confessing defeat and congratulated Majimbo for winning the nomination slot and becoming the party flag bearer.

“We want a leader who will step into the shoes of the late Mp James Lusweti, Majimbo will embrace everyone, our campaign trail will involve the two candidates and will move and down to ensure Majimbo wins in the by election,” he said.

Weta said that as parties, they should allow democracy to prevail and allow the popular person carry the day.

“The party will facilitate the winner in presenting the party certificate to IEBC and during campaigns,” he said.
