Ojamoong Condemns Police Shooting Of A Youth In Malaba, Calls For Speedy Investigations

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has condemned Friday’s incident at a roadblock in Malaba when a police officer shot dead a youth over claims he was not wearing a mask.

In a press conference, the Governor said the fatal incident is not only regrettable but calls for thorough investigations and with culprits brought to book.

“We condemn this heinous act in the strongest terms possible where Ezekiel Okiru a form two student at Kolanya boys lost his life from people who are supposed to protect them,” he said.

Ojaamong said quick action by investigative arms of the government, including DCIO and IPOA, has led to the arrest of the trigger happy officer.

The Governor said the county has witnessed several cases of police harassment, thus the need for investigations into these cases and perpetrators made to answer for their inhuman acts.

He appealed for calm as the law takes its on course. This followed Saturday’s demostration in Malaba as police engaged protesters in running battles.

“We shall convene a meeting with security agencies including the County Commissioner and County Commander to chat the way forward on sporadic cases of police harassment and measures to curtail such harassments.

“On behalf of the county government and my on behalf, I send my deepest condolences to the family, friends and relatives of the late Ezekiel,” he said.
