Police officers in Webuye town, Bungoma County have arrested 21 youths for flouting Covid-19 directive.

The youths were arrested at a hotel where they had congregated to celebrate the birthday party of one of them.

The youths spent their night at Webuye police station after they were arrested on Sunday November 22 at 5:30pm.

Addressing the press, Webuye OCPD Valerian Obore said that the teens are aged between 14-18 years.

“Our officers were informed of an ongoing party in one of the hotel in Webuye town, they rushed and arrested them for flouting the Covid-19 protocols,” he said.

Obore said that 14 of the apprehended teens were girls while 7 were boys.

“The teens were taking alcohol and dancing precariously yet they are below 18 years,” he said.

He continued, “They were also engaged in serious issues which is beyond their age,”.

Obore called on parents to be watchful, guide and advice their children so that they can observe covid-19 and stop engaging in alcohol drinking

The OCPD observed that they have called the teens parents to advice their children so that they can stop congregating during this period.

“We have invited their parents to come here so that we can chat the way forward, we won’t allow them to continue suffering during this pandemic period,” he said.
