Village thrown into mourning as rock boulder kills 10 year’s boy in Bungoma

Sadness has engulfed Buema village in Kanduyi constituency, Bungoma county after a ten year’s old boy was killed on Monday.

The deceased was killed by a rock boulder that was being crushed at a nearby quarry.
The boy met his untimely death while he and friends were swimming in a ditch where stones had previously been excavated.
The quarry owner Dr.Wanyama who is also the owner of Bungoma West hospital in Kanduyi was testing a new crusher he had bought but never warned surrounding residents in advance.
Residents claim that Dr.Wanyama is very arrogant and cannot heed to any advice from any body.

“If he would have warned us in advance, so that we leave the place as they plan to start crushing, look we have lost our child,” said Victor Wekesa.
Wekesa added that the boy should have been sacrificed as the new machine was being launched.
Violet Nasambu another resident stated that it was sad for losing such a young soul.
“This boy would have been somebody someday if he hadn’t been killed by a careless stone crusher,” she said.
Nasambu asked the National Environmental and Management Authority to move with speed and close the quarry before more deaths are witnessed.
During the incident another 12 year’s boy was also injured, rushed to a nearby health facility, treated and discharged.

“He heard the noise as the boulder was rolling down the hill, he hid himself in a nearby big stone but still he was hit and injured, his friend was not lucky,” said Jason Waliuba.
The deceased hands and legs were chopped off and he died on the spot after over bleeding.
The body was later picked by police officers from Bungoma police station and taken to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
