Kudos to my colleagues who have stood firm and remained steadfast in telling stories that has changed the perception about this noble profession.

As we join our colleagues Worldwide in celebrating the World Press Freedom Day in style, It is good to understand that Journalism is not meant for the faint hearted, we need to highlight on issues affecting the society and strife to tell the truth without fear or favour.

The press is the society’s eye and the expectations from the society is very huge on us.

A number of our colleagues have been threatened and some assaulted in the course of their duties by some elements in the society who feel that if the truth about them is exposed they will lose their credibility.

We must unite and speak in one voice as scribes so that our voice can be heard far and wide.

Journalists play a critical role in telling the story that some leaders don’t want to be exposed, the rest is public relationship.

Kudos to my colleagues who have stood firm and remained steadfast in telling stories that has changed the perception about this noble profession.

Even though we will not have to congregate anywhere because of the biting global pandemic COVID-19 but i must categorically state that the press has played a key role in checking and oversighting both the county and national government, together we will succeed.

Signed;

Oti Oteba
