Widely recognized WhatsApp group has distributed foodstuffs to the elderly people within Bukembe East Ward.
The Bungoma County based online group that mostly discusses develoment, politics and business ventures decided to contribute some cash which facilitated the purchase of foodstuffs.
Bukembe East Development Forum WhatsApp Group made an effort to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic through assisting the elderly persons who are in danger of contracting the deadly global pandemic.
Led by the forum Administrator/Chairman Webster Wechuli and the Covid-19 CSR ad-hoc committee members Duncan Wasike and Jemima Kavaka Queenita, the exercise involved dropping off the package at the recipients’ door step in line with the Government’s directive of social distancing and staying at home.
The foodstuffs distribution covered over 40 families within Bukembe, North Sang’alo and Kongoli sub locations.
“This is just the first phase of an expected three phases that may be broadened beyond the borders of Bukembe East Ward. I appeal to well wishers to chip in the subsequent phases for the success of the exercise,” said Wechuli
He added, “I wish to thank the Bedef members for being selfless and contributing wholeheartedly towards this venture, don’t tire, we will still need your support in future, I love the power of social media,”.
The area Chief Mr Martin Kwata thanked Bedef for the initiative and called upon well wishers to support the group’s initiative.
One of the beneficiaries a 68 years Granny Joyce Nekesa lauded Bedef for supporting her with assorted foodstuffs.
“I was almost going to sleep angry today, I hadn’t taken tea since morning and I can’t work because of my weak body due to sickness, may God open your ways and bless you so much so that you can help more vulnerable families in future,” she said.
